Democrat Heidi Henkel is a Broomfield City Council member who has spent nearly two decades fighting for the working families of HD33. Before holding office, she was a driving force behind Senate Bill 181, the landmark oil and gas reform giving local communities control over fossil fuel encroachment near homes and schools.
In office, Heidi has championed an inclusionary housing ordinance, protected mobile home residents from corporate ownership, helped keep water rates low, passed local firearm ordinances, established a Board of Health, and advanced a human rights ordinance for Broomfield. She has also been a consistent voice for climate action, local data protection, and funding for the nonprofits that keep the community strong.
Beyond the Council, Heidi serves as Executive Director of the Broomfield Resettlement Task Force, earning the Heart of Broomfield Angel Award in 2022 for her work resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan. She holds leadership roles on the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the Metro Area County Commissioners, and a NACO Presidential Appointment to the Federal Immigration Task Force. Heidi lives in Broomfield with her husband Scott, their two children, and their two dogs.
